Hartbeespoort Dam: Surrounded by the magnificence of the Magaliesberg mountain range, the Hartbeespoort Dam is a popular destination for weekend getaways or day trips. Pilanesberg Game Reserve: The crater of a long extinct volcano is the setting of Pilanesberg National Park - a fascinating alkaline complex produced by volcanic eruptions some 1300 million years ago. Pilanesberg is one of the largest volcanic complexes of its kind in the world. Geologically, the area is world famous for its unique rock types and structure.

Bloemhof Dam Nature Reserve: One of the largest dams in South Africa, fed by the Vaal River offering the visitor game viewing with full camping facilities and water sports. This nature reserve also hosts over 250 species of birds and several national and international fishing competitions.
The Vredefort Dome: Created by a massive meteorite over 10km³ in size which struck the earth about 3000 million years ago near the present day village of Vredefort. The impact created a crater some 70 km in diameter and 16-18 km deep and caused a tremendous shift in the earth's crust across a radius of over 150km. This area is known as the "Vredefort Dome". One of the province's premiere adventure tourism sites with numerous tour operators and accommodation facilities catering for the needs of campers, hikers, rock climbers, canoeists and white water rafters.
