Establishment Details - The Melville Turret Guesthouse

The Melville Turret is a landmark building in Melville, Johannesburg and was built in 1906 by Erik van den Berg who owned a bicycle shop in downtown Johannesburg.

Over the years the house has been used for many purposes; private residence, boarding house, architects offices, back packers lodge and now a guest house.

The house has recently been renovated, with a mix of the old and new, traditional and contemporary, with the end result been an eclectic mix but still remaining true to the original splendor and glory of the property.

We offer 9 en-suite rooms of which 3 are equipped with self-catering facilities.

From the airport follow the R24 Johannesburg signs At the Gillooly’s interchange take the N3 -Johannesburg At the Geldenhuis interchange take the M2 – Johannesburg / City follow around the city until you see the exit sign 10 – M1 (North) Johannesburg – Sandton / Pretoria follow this until you see the Exit 13 (R55) Empire Road off ramp Turn left into Empire Road and follow to the T-junction with Kingsway turn right Continue over 2 traffic lights, at the 3rd (Lothbury Road) turn right Lothbury becomes 7th Street. Follow over one traffic circle (1st Ave) at the next intersection (2nd Avenue) turn right. We’re on the right corner of 2nd Avenue and 9th Street
