Establishment Details - Kulungi Riverside Lodge
5 private, totally separate, spacious thatched chalets, of which 2 are also self-catering units and 2 luxury tents. All accommodation units have an en-suite bathroom, ceiling fan, mosquito net, mini bar and a private patio where guests can view the abundant species of game, including four of the BIG FIVE drinking at the waterhole or at the river.

The chalets have air-conditioning, shower facility only, and can sleep two adults and two children. Each tent has a separate bath and shower and comfortably sleeps 3 persons. We regret that there is no air-conditioning in the tents.

Unwind during the heat of the day around the sparkling pool and later enjoy a cold sundowner on the lodges patio, boma area or at the cosy well stocked bar, or even better on your own private viewing verandah. There is a TV with situated in the bar area. The restaurant has a lovely light wooden and bush appearance, where all meals including a Full Hot & Cold Breakfast and 3 Course Dinner (Set menu) are served each day/night.

Weather permitting, outdoor dining in the boma, under the stars can be enjoyed as well as a relaxing evening sitting around the large fire pit.
Early morning and evening game drives with a ranger will reveal the wonders of the bush and enthusiastic ornithologists can view over 300 species of birds including the shy Purple Crested Lourie, the fierce and majestic Bateleur, to the rare Pels Fishing Owl. Golf enthusiasts can unwind on one of the picturesque courses within easy driving distance from Kulungi and a must would be at the renowned Hans Merensky Golf Course where it is common to see elephant, giraffe, warthogs, baboons and a variety of antelope crossing the rolling fairways. Other popular attractions in the area are the Amarula Lapa, Jumbo River Safaris, Masorini Iron Works, Khamai Reptile Park, Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, Elephant inter-action and rides and the Cheetah Research Centre. The Phalaborwa entrance to the Kruger National Park is a mere 25 minutes drive away.

Directions to Kulungi Riverside Lodge
Directions from Johannesburg and Pretoria

From Pretoria take the N4 to the Belfast turn-off. From Johannesburg take the N12 to Witbank, where it becomes the N4. Continue on the N4 past Middleburg tollgate until you reach the Belfast turn-off where you must turn left onto the R33 and proceed into Belfast. Once in Belfast, turn right off the R33 onto the R540 to Dullstroom.

From Dullstroom continue to Lydenburg, approximately 50 km further on. At the T-junction just after the Laske Nakke Holiday Resort and Caravan Park, turn left onto the R36 and continue into Lydenburg.
Follow the Ohrigstad signboards. The R36 from Lydenburg continues north for about 47 km to Ohrigstad. Continue on the R36 for about 46 km to the Abel Erasmus Pass and through the Strijdom Tunnel.
Once through Tunnel you will see Olifants River on the left down in the Valley. Stay on that Road until you see turn off to Tzaneen and Phalaborwa. The turn off is on left at a Petrol Station. Go along that road (still R36) for approximately 10kms and you will see turn off to Phalaborwa to the right.

Go along that Road (R526/also signposted as R40!) towards Mica. This stretch of road is about 26km. Get to T Junction - turn left to Phalaborwa and Mica (now also called Maruleng - bypass Mica and Samey petrol station and about 4 1/2km from Mica there is a large sign pointing to Tzaneen on the Left. Do not take this turn off –stay on the R40 (now also signposted sometimes as the R530!) and we are approximately 23kms from Mica on right. You will see a sign for Kulungi and Grietjie Nature Reserve. (2km before this sign you will see a red and white cell phone tower on the left). The Kulungi and Grietjie Signs are on the left but the turn off to our Lodge is on the right.

Sign in at Gate and follow signs to Kulungi Riverside Lodge
