Situated on the banks of the St. Lucia Estuary near the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park and Hluhluwe-uMfolozi Game Reserve, this idyllic luxury lodge is your gateway to the unspoilt beaches of the Elephant Coast.

Property Description:

The lodge comprises 20 luxury air-conditioned chalets and a stunning honeymoon suite each with its own fully self contained kitchen. Breakfasts are an optional extra and can be specified when making your reservation. Television screens are available in all rooms and give access to selected DSTV channels for those rare days of rain in the area. There are 7 two sleeper chalets, 2 three sleepers, 11 four sleeper units and 1 honeymoon suite. The central thatched Boma which faces out over the swimming pool is the ideal area to either relax in the hammocks or sit in the shade to adjust to the relaxing pace of Zululand. There is also a communal barbeque area to enjoy.

Directions to Hippo Hideaway

Take the N2 North and approximately 50km past Empangeni, take the Mtubatuba/St Lucia turnoff (R618) to the right.

After approximately 2 km at T-junction turn left.

After approximately 800m, take the St Lucia turnoff (R618) to the right.

Approximately 25 km straight on the St Lucia road takes you into St Lucia Town.

Turn right into McKenzie Street and approximately 800 metres on the right you will find Hippo Hideaway – opposite the Spar Supermarket.
From Johannesburg

Take the N2 to Witbank. Turn off to Ogies, pass through Bethal, Ermelo, Piet Retief, Pongola. From Pongola on the N2 South and approximately 60 km past Hluhluwe take the Mtubatuba/St Lucia turnoff (R618) to the left.

Follow this road until you approach Mtubatuba and take the first turn left to St Lucia (R618).

Approximately 25 km straight on the St Lucia road takes you into St Lucia Town.
