The 4-star graded De Doornkraal Historic Country House is a charming boutique hotel located on the Garden Route in the heritage hub of Riversdale in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. The historic De Doornkraal homestead is one of the original structures of the farm Doornkraal proclaimed in 1746.
At De Doornkraal you will be treated to luxurious accommodation in charming surroundings. The splendid facilities will ensure that your stay with us is truly memorable. Riversdale, home of the majestic "Sleeping Beauty" mountain peak, is located on the Garden Route, a malaria-free area. It is the seat of the Hessequa municipality that forms part of the Eden District in the Western Cape province.
All 15 rooms offered are en suite. Internet is free. Guests can enjoy a drink from the homely honesty bars in the two private lounges. Two cottages with lounges and patios supplement the boutique hotel accommodation. Guests experience total privacy since the hosts reside in the Edwardian homestead of the De Doornkraal Estate.
A pool is located in the garden for the exclusive use of guests. Enjoy a drink at the poolside or in the adjacent wine garden where a 200 year old vine is still bearing grapes.The intimate "De Wingerdt" restaurant has a splendid wine list and serves cuisine of the region. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is ample secure parking for guests.
De Doornkraal is eco-friendly; solar water heating is utilised for the en suite bathrooms. For organisations that need a break from city life De Doornkraal offers conferencing in the renovated, air conditioned former freemasons "Lodge Frere" built in 1888 that forms part of the complex. Riversdale is the gem of the Garden Route. Riversdale is uniquely located a casual three hours drive from Cape Town along the N2 Highway, just about half way to Plettenberg Bay. The popular fishing village of Still Bay is 20 minutes away by road, while the open spaces of the Klein Karoo can be reached in 15 minutes via the scenic Garcia pass, adjacent to the famous Sleeping Beauty mountain peak. Riversdale makes an ideal stopover or base for exploring a wider area.
Leisure activities include golf, sight seeing, picnics, fishing, fynbos hiking trails, and horse trails. Riversdale is in the malaria free zone.
