Establishment Details - Birkenhead House
Summary:
A heavenly place perched on the cliffs overlooking the azure Indian Ocean, white tipped waves and whales that frolic. Birkenhead House is named after a British troop ship that sank in Walker Bay in 1852. Bracing air and stunning views from your suite are the very essence of what a breathtaking sea view should be.
Theme:
The ambiance is cool, soothing and incredibly stylish. Interiors are a fascinating eclectic mix. Ralph, with his particular brilliance, has added innovative and stunning touches throughout the spacious rooms, mixing glowing antiques with contemporary pieces. The striking shell covered cupboard is a talking point as you enter and the mirror frames in the luscious bathrooms are a riot of pastel shells. Colours, used by Ralph in single striking shafts, are always in fabulous fabrics, lime velvet, deep cherry and sharp Chinese yellows in raw silk, off set by acres of cream.
Views:
The delightful gardens at Birkenhead House offer inspiration as you stroll through the sunny courtyards. Designed in house, the gardens are pristine. Vivid masses of blue and white pansies float in ceramic pots, profuse brilliant petunias, borders of scented deep purple French lavender and fragrant rows of pale lemon Graham Thomas roses.
Property Description:
The perfect place for 5-star quality Accommodation, Spa Treatments and Weddings Venue.
Accommodation is offered in 11 luxurious rooms in total. Each room features various types of views and facilities, to offer an exclusive stay. There is a honeymoon suite as well for newly-weds to enjoy the start of their lives together. Rates includes: meals, snacks, local beverages, house wines teas, coffee, laundry and local transfers to Hermanus and wine tasting tour.
A feature of all three properties is undoubtedly the linens in the suites, extravagant and gorgeous. Liz has chosen embroidered Ralph Lauren. Throws are in alluring colours, watermelon pink and pale lilac, bathrobes are cloud grey silk lined with white towelling and are especially imported from America. Bedrooms are your sanctuary, an oasis of comfort and luxury.
All the menus at Birkenhead House are created by Chef Devon Matthews from breakfast on the terrace and light lunches overlooking the ocean to glamorous dinners by candlelight. Devon orchestrates the wedding lunch, a perfect feast of fascinating flavours, marrying well with Bouchard Finlayson's award winning wines.
The style of Bouchard Finlayson's highly acclaimed 'Kaaimansgat' Crocodile's Lair Chardonnay is an exciting move away from new world Chardonnay. It has a rich citrus fruit flavour enhanced by a gentle use of the best French oak. A natural match complementing one of Devon's signature dishes, lightly grilled linefish on an unctuous spring onion mash layered with aubergine and topped with sautéed baby tomatoes.
